Helen Gladys Shahan

On May 6, 2010, Helen Shahan went home to be with her Lord. Funeral: 2 p.m. Monday in White's Chapel of Memories, 130 Houston Avenue, Weatherford. Dr. Wayne Blankenship will officiate. Burial: East Greenwood Cemetery, Weatherford. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Box 4072, Pittsfield, Mass. 01202, or, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, P.O. Box 650309, Dallas, Texas 75265-0309. Helen Shahan was born May 19, 1919, in Cass County, to Maggie and George Luther Davlin. When her husband, Willis, went to East Texas to work, they met and were eventually married in Dallas on Oct. 9, 1937. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on Oct. 9, 2003. Helen was a devoted homemaker. Her family and God were the center of her life. She was an excellent seamstress, making all of her children's clothes, and a marvelous cook. She also enjoyed managing her flower beds. In addition, she was a long time member of the First Baptist Church. For many years she taught the Beginners Sunday School Class. She worked with GA'S. Anything that was needed to be done within the church she was available. She was always ready to do the task while always showing her abiding faith in Jesus Christ. Her civic duties included providing Meals on Wheels for many years. Helen was preceded in death by her two sons, Anthony and Stephen; and her husband, Willis. Survivors: Daughter, Dianna Smith; granddaughter, Lynn Thompson and husband, Charlie; three great-grandchildren, Ashley, Keith, and Dakota; three great-great-grandchildren, Joby, Dylan, and Seth; brother-in-law, Yearby Shahan and wife, Nita; two sisters-in-law, Maydeen Davlin and Nell Davlin; as well as many nieces and nephews.
