Ed Layne, 82, passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at his home, surrounded by his family.Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 2010 at the Cornerstone Community Church, 2233 E. Hwy. 199, SpringtownInterment: Springtown CemeteryVisitation: 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at White's Funeral Home, 401 N. Main St., SpringtownEd was born October 7, 1927 to Langston Irvin and Mabel Cecilia Schade Layne in Eliasville. He proudly served in the Merchant Marines from 1945 to 1946. Ed married Esther Pauline Montgomery on June 16, 1945 and they began their life together.He started an automotive repair business, L & L Garage in Springtown in 1948. Ed retired as owner of Layne's Automotive in 1988 and Layne's Machine Shop remains the second oldest family owned business in town. He was past Master of Eureka Lodge #371 and life member in Springtown. Ed was also a member of ScottishRite and Moslah Shrine.Ed was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, L. I. Layne, Jr. and Donald Lee Layne; sister, Joyce Eleanor Strowd.Survivors: Beloved wife of 64 years, Pauline Layne; son, Dan Layne and wife, Glenda; daughter, Paula Martin and husband, Joe; grandchildren, Langston Layne and wife, Cindy, Grace Sowell and husband, Scott, Nic Anderson and wife, Jodie, Chris Anderson and fiance, Cassidy Brown, Tim Anderson, Jacob Martin and Corey Martin; great-grandchildren, Whitney Layne, Ronnie Gaston, Marcus Gaston, Kaitlyn Anderson, Brayden Anderson, Sierrah Sowell and Maynard Sowell; great great-grandchildren, Conner Peters, Christian Gaston, Cameron Gaston and Jaylyn Gaston; sister, Annette Burk Hughes and husband, Albert; nephew, Asa Burk and wife, Alicia; nieces, Cara Jolly and husband, Darin and Sharon Blichfeldt and husband, Howard.
