WEATHERFORD -- Bill G. Wester, 81, a dentist, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 3, 2010, at a Weatherford hospital. Memorial service: Noon Monday at Central Christian Church, 1602 S. Main St., Weatherford. The Rev. Danny Couch will officiate. Interment: private family committal. Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at White's Funeral Home, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford. Memorials: In lieu of usual remembrances, the family suggests contributions be made in his honor to the Central Christian Church Building Fund, the Alzheimer's Association or Meals on Wheels. Bill was born Aug. 7, 1928, in Floydada to James C. and Sibyl McGhee Wester. He attended Floydada schools, North Texas State University and graduated from Baylor School of Dentistry in 1951. Bill and Marilyn Grube were married Dec. 2, 1951. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1952. Bill was commissioned a lieutenant junior grade and sent to San Diego, Calif., to serve as a dentist and later to a ship, the Piedmont, serving as a dentist to military on other ships. In 1954 he was honorably discharged after serving two years during the Korean War. The couple set up his dental practice in Weatherford in October 1954. He continued to practice there until his retirement in 1996. In 1984 Bill was one of five organizers of the Weatherford National Bank and served as a director until retirement from the board in 2001. Dr. Wester was a faithful member of Central Christian Church for 56 years. He served as an elder for many years, was Sunday school superintendent, treasurer, served on the building and several other committees and the board of directors. Bill's hobbies included fishing, genealogy, bridge, traveling, antique collecting, camping and square dancing, and he excelled at ballroom dancing. He had many affiliations including Parker County Sportsman's Club, Knights of Pythias, Parker County Heritage Society, Fort Worth District Dental Society, Texas Dental Society and American Dental Association. The family of Dr. Bill Wester wishes to thank the staff and caregivers of Arbor House for their loving care during Bill's stay there. Dr. Wester will be remembered for his warm, caring personality and his calm demeanor. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. Bill will be greatly missed and will be forever in our hearts and teeth. Dr. Wester was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jean Jones; and brother, Edward Wester, all of Floydada. Survivors: Wife, Marilyn Wester; daughters, Carol Wester and Nancy Wester; grandsons, Mitchell Merritt and Clinton Merritt; great-granddaughter, Madelynn Ava Merritt; brother, James D.
