HURST -- Leata Mae DeMouy, 89, passed away Monday, July 19, 2010, at a Hurst care facility. Graveside service: 2 p.m. Thursday in Plainview Cemetery & Memorial Park, 100 S. Joliet St., Plainview. Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at White's Funeral Home, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford. Memorials: In lieu of usual remembrances, the DeMouy family suggests contributions in Leata's memory to Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011. Leata Mae Hale Byrd DeMouy was born April 27, 1921, in Auburn, daughter of the late James Henery and Della Belle Hargrove Hale. She married Alfred Byrd on June 5, 1938, and he preceded in her in death Sept. 2, 1972. After Alfred's death, Leata married Earl DeMouy on Nov. 23, 1981, and he preceded her in death May 2, 1986. In addition to Alfred and Earl, Leata was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Barnett; grandsons, Todd Byrd, Josh McDaniels, and Terry Holmes; great-grandson, Sean Holmes; parents; three brothers; and two sisters. Survivors: Sons, Bob Byrd of Weatherford, Alvis Byrd of Hurst, Dee Byrd of Gatesville, and Alton Byrd of Granada Hills, Calif.; daughters, Joyce Wilburn of Lubbock, Ruby Shoemake of Northridge, and Audrey Bennett of Van; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a host of loving family and friends.
