Carl Barker

WEATHERFORD -- Carl Barker, 79, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, July 25, 2010. Funeral: 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Weatherford. Interment: Memory Gardens of the Valley. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at White's Funeral Home. Carl was born June 6, 1931, in Marlow, Okla., the son of the late Rupert Carl and Minnie Brown Barker. He lost his mother at an early age and was blessed to have Eula Mae Warren Barker to assume the role of a loving mother. Carl accepted Christ in 1944 at the age of 13. On June 6, 1953, he married Billie June Hobbs at First Baptist Church in Waurika, Okla., and was happily married for 57 years. Carl was ordained a deacon in 1956. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Weatherford and the Open Door Sunday School, was a deacon and in 2008 became deacon emeritus. Mr. Barker proudly served in the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a retired teacher and administrator. Carl served in both Oklahoma and Texas public school systems. He retired as superintendent of the Peaster ISD. Mr. Barker graduated from Tulia High School in Tulia in 1949. He graduated with an associate's degree from Cameron College in 1951, a bachelor of science degree in 1956 and a master of education in administration and mathematics in 1963 from Midwestern University. In 1965 Carl received his administration certification from UNT and his Oklahoma administration certification from Oklahoma University in 1971. He was preceded in death by his son, Dennis Wayne Barker; parents, Rupert Carl and Minnie Brown Barker; mother, Eula Mae Warren Barker; and brother, Jerry Rupert Barker. Survivors: Wife, Billie June Barker; son, William Carl and wife, Doris, of Aledo; daughter, Carla Cai Ward and husband, Bill, of Willow Park; daughter-in-law, Velvet Barker of Weatherford; grandchildren, Dustan Barker and wife, Holly, Christopher Barker, Brittany Barker, Bradley Barker, Ryan Ward, Zachary Ward and Breanna Ward; special brothers, Joe Warren of Dallas and William Warren of Seymour; and sister, Mary Stewart of Wichita Falls.
