William Robert Miller

William Robert Miller, 83, passed away Wednesday, September 15, 2010, surrounded by his family, at a local hospital.Memorial Service: Private.Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in Bob's name.William Robert Miller was born on August 22, 1927 to William A. and Nadine D. Miller. He was raised and went to school and college in the Chicago area. He served in the Army Corps of Engineers in the reconstruction efforts in Europe at the close of the Second World War. Bob met and married Florence Elizabeth Hansell on August 7, 1950, at Mountain Home, Arkansas. Their first daughter, Kathleen Jo, was born in Chicago. The family moved to Fort Worth in 1953, and soon afterward settled in Weatherford, where two sons, William James and Jeffrey Lynn and another daughter, Amanda Nadine were born.While in Weatherford, Bob was active as a Boy Scout leader and member of the Grace First Presbyterian Church. He worked as a health physicist for the nuclear division of General Dynamics in Fort Worth. After retirement, Bob owned and operated a popular marina and beach resort with his family on Eagle Mountain Lake before retiring again and moving to the country, near Cottondale in Wise County. Among other organizations, he was a member of Mensa, and the Health Physics Society. Bob was a proud and passionate humanist who believed the best of our natures will eventually win out. He loved camping, building all manner of things, from boats to computers, and tinkering with and repairing electronics. Bob also loved arguing philosophy, physics and cosmology, writing limericks, listening to great music, and boating on lakes from Michigan to Texas. But his greatest love was his family. He and Florence celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this August.He was preceded in death by his parents; his youngest son, Jeffrey Lynn Miller; his brother, Herbert Allen Miller; a nephew; and a great nephew. Survivors: his beloved wife, Florence; daughter, Kathleen Jo Miller Lowry, and husband, Bruce; son, William James Miller, and wife, Lisa Lowry Miller; daughter-in-law, Sheril Mills Miller; daughter, Amanda Nadine Miller Burkhalter, and husband, Gregory; grandchildren, Dylan Wayne Lowry, Ilia Jo Lowry, Ricky Miller, Joren Addison Burkhalter and Isabella Grace Burkhalter; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Sara, Jakob, and Andrew Lowry; sister, Patricia Miller Tamburrino, and husband, Michael; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
