Melvin (Mel) Eugene McClourJuly 25, 1933 - December 21, 2010Mel McClour departed this life on December 21, 2010 for eternity in heaven after complications from pneumonia.Services will be held on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at 11:00 at New Hope Baptist Church, 782 New Hope Rd., Boyd, Texas 76023-8626, (817) 221-2184.Interment will follow at Old Hall Cemetery 1200 McGee Lane, Lewisville, TexasThe youngest child of six born to Minnie & Emmet McClour in Hugo, Oklahoma. Mel left home at the age of 16 for work in Oregon. He later moved to Los Angeles California where he met and married Ruth Geraldine (Jerry) Silvers and raised their daughter Debbie. Mel worked there in a factory for several years. After tiring of the fast pace of Los Angeles, the family moved to Lewisville, Texas in 1967 where he worked for Lone Star Gas for a number of years. He then began his own successful plumbing business, which he operated until he went to work for Sky Chefs in 1981. He left Sky Chefs shortly after Jerry's passing and after a back injury in 1987. Five years after Jerry's passing, Mel married Mary Christenberry Plumlee in 1992. They lived in Denton, Texas. He drove cars for dealer trades for Huffines and other dealerships which he enjoyed and loved even more when Mary was able to accompany him. They retired to the farm in Springtown, Texas in 2007, where he enjoyed working in the church food pantry.Mel is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, brother Grover McClour, and sister Pearl Sanders.He is survived by sisters Ann Ball of Commanche, Texas, Juanita Phillips of Hugo Oklahoma, brother Clyde McClour of Rowland Heights, California, daughter Debbie McClour Osborne and her husband Tom, step-daughter LaQuita and husband Steve McPheters, step-son Dewayne and wife Heidi Plumlee and grandchildren, Ashlee Osborne, Jennifer Murry, Kim Rodgers, Hailey Rodgers, Craig Plumlee and Shelley Plumlee, great-grand children Ivy Murry, Eathen Hadaway, Rylee James, and Carter Plumlee.Mel also leaves behind a host of extended family, including nieces, nephews, and cousins as well as many friends.
