J.C. "Jake" Jackson

J.C. "Jake" Jackson, 95, passed away Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010, in Fort Worth. Mass of Christian Burial: 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 1802 Bethel Road, Weatherford. Interment: Oakland Cemetery, Weatherford. Visitation and Rosary: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at White's Chapel of Memories, 130 Houston Avenue, Weatherford. J. C. "Jake" Jackson was born May 3, 1915, near Earl's Switch in Parker County. He was the son of Stonewall and Willy Huston Shelby Jackson. Jake attended Weatherford High School. Jake Jackson served in World War II from February 1942 until November 1945. His service assignments included Galveston where he served with the 20th Air Force in a radar unit. In 1945 he was ordered to the South Pacific where he was stationed on Iwo Jima. He received several citations, including two bronze stars. In 1961 he married Mary Martha Hardie Woodman. Mr Jackson served on the Parks Board of Weatherford from 1972 until 1979, during which enough parks were secured or improved to last the city for 25 years. These included Soldier Springs Park, Cartwright Park, Holland Lake Park, and a playground convenient to Travis School and the Vine Street Apartments. He served as election judge in Precinct 2 for several years. In 1970, seventy-five percent of the registered voters of that precinct went to the polls. Jake Jackson was a member of Brothers of the Brazos, Weatherford Friends of the Library, Weatherford Performing Arts, past member of the Noon Lions and past president and member of Knights of Columbus. He was a member of St Stephen's Catholic Church. Jake was preceded in death by his father in 1925; his mother in 1977, his daughter, Marletta Marie Jackson in 2007; his wife, Myrtle Faye Wall Jackson in 1938; his ex-wife, Anna Anna Lee Kyle Jackson; his brother, Harvey Dow Jackson; and his sisters, Thelma Jewel Baxter and Willie Ray Portwood. Survivors: Wife of 49 years, Mary Jackson of Weatherford; step-son, Richard Woodman and wife, Sandra, of Santo; brother, Stonewall Jackson of Santo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
