Charles Wesley Thomas

Reverend Charles Wesley Thomas, 90, flew peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Monday, Jan. 3, 2011. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Benevelent Program at Bethel UMC, a program Rev. Thomas established a few years ago to help those in need. Charles Wesley Thomas was born July 1, 1920, in Gainesville, the eldest son of the late Robert Wesley and Mary Elizabeth Thomas. C.W. was a retired Methodist minister, having served several churches in Weatherford and the surrounding areas. He was a Master Mason and a great carpenter in his younger days. He enjoyed "going for coffee" with his friends every day while his health allowed. He faithfully served his country during World War II in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Charles often spoke with pride about his children and how much he appreciated them more and more as he moved through life after the loss of his beloved wife, Bernice. Fly away, Daddy, from the bounds of Earth to the freedom of Heaven. We'll all meet you "in the morning, in the city that is built four-square." Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bernice; his parents; brother, Earnest Wayne Thomas; and sisters, Mary Lou Hart and Betty Jean Burke. Survivors: daughter, Elizabeth (Betty)Wright and husband, Bob, of Weatherford; sons, Charles W Thomas and wife, Kathy, and James "Jim" Robert Thomas and wife, Wanda, both of Waco; granddaughter, Suzanne Eure; grandsons, Troyce, Wilburn and Ricky Thomas and wife, Leslie; two great-granddaughters; three great-grandsons; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many wonderful and loving friends who will miss him deeply, including his good friends at Sterling House Assisted Living.
