WEATHERFORD -- John Hugh Dykes, 79, a retired ARCO Pipeline electrician, passed away Friday, Jan. 7, 2011. Funeral: 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, 301 S. Main St., Weatherford. Interment: Memory Gardens of the Valley. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at White's Funeral Home, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the Dykes family requests contributions in John's memory to the Salvation Army of Weatherford, Manna Storehouse, 129 East Spring St., Weatherford, Texas 76086; or the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Mallick Tower, 101 Summit Ave., #204, Fort Worth, Texas 76102. John Hugh Dykes was born Aug. 6, 1931, in Weatherford, Okla. He married Mary Jane McLin in Clinton, Okla., in 1951. He graduated from Frederick High School in Frederick, Okla., in 1950. Mr. Dykes was a Korean War combat veteran, serving with the Oklahoma National Guard in the 45th Division. Mr. Dykes was a member of IBEW Local 681 in Wichita Falls for 57 years and was a 30-year employee of ARCO Pipeline. John and the former Connie Brown were joined in marriage by Dr. Loury Drue Nero on Dec. 13, 2009, at First Baptist Church of Joplin and they shared a wonderful year together. Mr. Dykes was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Dr. Mary Dykes; his parents, Haskell and Ada Dykes; and daughter, Lora Biddy. Survivors: Wife, Connie L. Dykes; son, John L. Dykes and wife, Debra; son-in-law, Gerry Biddy; grandchildren, Jonathan Biddy and wife, Penny, Christi Biddy, Amy Dykes Phifer and husband, Mack, Sherry Biddy, and Lori Dykes Ross and husband, Matthew; great-grandchildren, Caleb Ross, Colton Ross, Brody Phifer and Lora Biddy; sister, Sue Dunham Wilson; stepchildren, Regina Sue Carter and husband, Gary, and Curtis E.
