WEATHERFORD -- Florene B. Westenhover, age 77, a long-time Weatherford resident and member of North Side Baptist Church, died Sunday morning, January 16, 2011. Funeral: 2 p.m. Thursday at North Side Baptist Church, 910 North Main St., Weatherford. Interment: Memory Gardens of the Valley. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at White's Funeral Home, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford. She was born September 6, 1933 in Rochester, Texas to the late Floyd and Lillie (Hester) Hutchens, graduated Rochester High School in 1950 at the age of 16, and later attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, where she obtained a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration at the age of 19. On August 30, 1952, Florene was united in marriage to Glenn J. Westenhover in her hometown. Florene and Glenn moved to Weatherford, when Glenn began teaching at Weatherford College, in July 1957. They remained to raise a large family. Florene was an active member of the North Side Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School classes at several levels, later becoming a mainstay in the Homebound Department, where she so enjoyed helping the elderly members of her congregation. Florene's passion in life was her family. She developed quite a reputation as an amateur genealogist and traveled far and wide in search of long-lost and distant relatives. In this endeavor, Florene made new friends in Germany, Switzerland and England, who then became a source of inspiration for her further travels. Florene is survived by her husband, Glenn, and their son, Gary and his wife, Mary Jane and son, Mark and his wife, Kelly; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Ryan, Ashley, Elizabeth, John, Sam and Catherine and a great-grandchild, Kaitlyn; a sister, Floy Mae Jenkins; numerous, aunts, uncles and cousins, friends and other relatives.
