Sam George, Jr., 81, passed away Friday, February 4, 2011 in Weatherford. Mr. George had been a resident of Parker County for 58 years. Sam was born in Rotan, on March 17, 1929. He was a graduate of North Texas State University in Denton, where he received a degree in Industrial Arts. Mr. George worked as a machinist and teacher during his lifetime. After obtaining a degree, Sam served his country in the Unites States Army. He was a member of South Main Church of Christ. Throughout his life, Sam loved traveling all over the world. He enjoyed reading, flying, horses, guns and building. Sam entertained his family by playing the fiddle. Mr. George loved to visit people and tell of his travels and various hobbies. Sam George, Jr. is survived by two sisters, Anne George Voelkle of Woodville and Star George Lee of Jasper; niece, Johnnie Voelkle Grissom and her husband, Larry Grissom of Spurger; great nephew, John Grissom of Spurger; and a great niece, Hannah Grissom of Spurger. A "Gathering of Family and Friends" will be 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, February 18 at South Main Church of Christ, 133 College Avenue in Weatherford.The family of Sam George, Jr. would like to thank the excellent staff of Weatherford Regional Medical Center for all of the care given to the entire family.
