Betty Cannon Bettis, 85, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away at her home Monday, Feb. 7, 2011. Service: 10 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church of Azle. Interment: Ash Creek Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Betty was born Sept. 27, 1925, in the Bluff Springs Silver Creek community. She joined Silver Creek Methodist Church as a small child and grew up in that church. When she was 17 years old, she moved her membership to First Methodist Church of Azle in 1943, along with her older brother and sister, when Alton Farrell was pastor. Betty was a 1942 graduate of Azle High School and was FFA sweetheart and cheerleader her senior year. She worked in the Fort Worth Stockyards as well as being a dairy farmer for 13 years. Betty also worked at Tri-County Electric Co-Op from 1974 until her retirement in 1991. She was preceded in death by her much-loved husband of 55 years, J.R. Bettis; parents, Durel and Dora Cannon; sisters and brothers, Laverne Winnett, Wordna Pierce, Wayne Cannon and Winfred Cannon; and great-grandson, Wyatt Lee Kittrell. Survivors: Sons, Bob Bettis and wife, Ginger, and Tom Bettis and wife, Joni, all of Azle; sister, Maxine Seaberry; sister-in-law, Beverly Cannon; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless friends.
