Dallas -- Marilyn Watkins, 81, passed away Friday, April 29, 2011, in Richardson. Funeral: 1 p.m. Thursday in White's Chapel of Memories, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford. Interment: Memory Gardens of the Valley, Weatherford. Visitation: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Marilyn Watkins was born Dec. 26, 1929, in Parker County, daughter of the late Harold and Faye Wingo Meyer. She married Vancil Watkins in Fort Worth in 1955 and they began their life together. Marilyn graduated with the class of 1947 from Weatherford High School and continued her education at Texas State College for Women, where she received both a Bachelor and Masters degree. She taught school for more than 25 years in the Fort Worth ISD and Caddo Parish Schools in Louisiana. While she lived in Shreveport, Marilyn participated in the Shreveport Opera and was active at Broadmoor Baptist Church. When she returned to Fort Worth, she became active at Ridglea Baptist Church. Marilyn was also a den mother while Jack and Russell were in Cub Scouts. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Vancil Watkins in 2007; one grandchild; her parents; and a sister, Beverly Friddle. Survivors: Daughter, Marsha Winkelmann and husband, Brian, of Grand Rapids, Mich.; sons, Jack Watkins and wife, Sue Ann, of Grandville, Mich. and Russell Watkins and wife, Sherry, of Commerce; grandchildren, Ashleigh, Heidi, Christopher, Stephanie, Sarah, Abby, Noah, Josh, Brandy, Donovan, and Ryan; sister, Nancy Powell; brother, Alvin Meyer; and a host of loving family and friends.
