WEATHERFORD -- Anita Maxine Gordon, 87, a retired elementary school teacher, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011. Service: 4 p.m. Friday in White's Chapel of Memories, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford. Interment: Venice Memorial Gardens, Venice, Fla. Visitation: 3 to 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Anita was born Oct. 3, 1923, daughter of the late Hughie Tierce and Naomi Horton Duncan, in Birmingham, Ala. She was a graduate of the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio, and was very proud of the distinction of graduating summa cum laude. Mrs. Gordon was a lifetime member of the National Education Association, the State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio, AARP and NARFE. She retired to Venice, Fla., where she was employed by Manatee Community College as an instructor in the Widow-to-Widow program and did freelance writing. She was a member of The Living Way Church in Willow Park. Mrs. Gordon was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert, and her sister, Barbara. Survivors: Son, Dr. Alan D.
