Gertrude English Gilley, 92, a devoted wife, homemaker and beloved aunt, died Friday, August 12, 2011.Funeral Service: 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at White's Funeral Home Chapel, 105 Denver Trail, Azle Interment: Veal Station CemeteryVisitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.A native of Azle, Gertrude was born February 16, 1919 to E. E. and Winnie English in Commerce. Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents at a young age and was raised by her Aunt Bob, Aunt Alice and Uncle Jack English. Gertrude was a graduate of Azle High School. She went on to graduate with a Bachelor's degree from Texas Women's College in Denton. Gertrude was a home economist for Lone Star Gas Company in Dallas for three years and she taught school for five years. She married Lloyd Gilley on December 27, 1947, and they were married for fifty-eight years before he passed away in 2006. They lived in California for three years and then moved to Fort Worth where they lived the rest of their married lives in the same home.Gertrude was well known for her skills in raising irises. She participated in the Fort Worth Iris Society and served as president for multiple years. Gertrude enjoyed these activities as shown by numerous awards received throughout the years. She was a devoted Christian and shared her faith over the years.Gertude was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved Aunt Bob, Aunt Alice and Uncle Jack English, her sister, Gretchen English and her cousin, Imogene English.Survivors: Her many nieces and nephews, Renee and Melvin Ball of Azle, Sandra and Frank Kilpatrick of Fort Worth, Ronnie and JoAnn Gilley of Lake Worth, Gary and Kathy Gilley of Fort Worth, Randall and Kathy Reed of Azle and numerous great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews and many other loving family members and friends.
