Walter L. Uptain passed away peacefully surrounded by family into the arms of the Lord Monday, August 15, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m., Friday at St. Stephen's Catholic Church. Interment: Memory Gardens of the Valley. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at White's Funeral Home with Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Walter was born near Clarksville, Arkansas the son of John and Martha Uptain. He served during World War II and was proud to be an American. Walter was a loving husband and father and worked hard to support his family. Walter was employed as a diesel mechanic for 33 years at Darr Equipment. He was known as the mechanic to call when there was a problem with a tractor. After his retirement from Darr, Walter worked for Fort Worth Crushed Stone for 18 years. He retired the second time at the age of 80. Survivors: wife of 62 years, Virginia; children, Catherine Carr and husband, Paul of San Antonio, David Uptain and wife, Risa of Keller, Theresa Schabow and husband, Chuck of Weatherford and Mike Uptain and wife, Sherri of North Richland Hills; sister, Betty Kelly of Louisiana; ten grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
