Alvin Hill Prince, Jr

Alvin Hill Prince Jr., a retired director of marketing for Texas New Mexico Power Co., passed away at his residence in Azle on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011. He was 92 years of age. Service: 10 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church of Azle. Interment: 3 p.m. in Lutheran Cemetery in Clifton. Visitation: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at White's Azle Funeral Home. Alvin Hill Prince Jr. was born Oct. 29, 1918, in Valley Mills. He graduated from Valley Mills High School in 1936. Alvin was employed by Humble Oil & Refining Co. in both Ingleside and Baytown. During his years with Humble Oil and Refining Co., he served almost four years during World War II in the United States Marine Corps. Most of his military time was on Midway and Guam islands. Shortly after his discharge from the Marine Corps, he went to work for Texas New Mexico Power Co. He retired in 1983 after a 36-year career with the company. While with this company, he lived in Clifton, Hamilton, Alvin, LaMarque, League City, Fort Worth and Azle. He was active in community service in all of the communities in which he lived. He was president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Lions Club and the Hamilton Volunteer Fire Department. During his years in LaMarque, he was president of the Lions Club, was district zone chairman, deputy district governor and district governor all in Lions District 2-S4. He also served as co-chairman of the LaMarque United Fund and two years as executive director of the Galveston County Lions Preschool Lighthouse for the Blind and two years as state director of the Lions Crippled Children's Camp in Kerrville. In 1967, he was transferred to the main office in Fort Worth. In 1971, he moved with his wife and two daughters to Azle, where he resided until his death. Alvin Hill Prince Jr. accepted Christ as his Savior in 1930. He was a strong believer in his God and his church. Alvin was a Methodist for many years and had been a member of First United Methodist Church of Azle since 1972. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Clifton. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Janis Surnear; and four sisters. Survivors: Wife of 64 years, Madge Anderson Prince; daughter, Linda Davis of Reno; granddaughter, Kim Maple and husband, Greg, of Springtown; grandsons, Bryan Davis and wife, Tonya, of Azle and James Surnear of Fort Worth; great-grandchildren, Leah, Ethan and Jordan Maple, Lauren and Megan Davis; sister, Eva Lee Schultz; brothers, Bill and Vic Prince; and many nieces, nephews and other loving family.
