Billy Joe attended and played football at Texas Christian University and earned his animal husbandry degree at Texas Tech University. Billy Joe married Georgia Mixon in Plainview in 1949. They returned to Fort Worth to live, work hard, raise their four beloved sons and watch their family continue to grow. Billy Joe was a rancher. He was very involved in the oil and gas industry and developing land in west Fort Worth, Benbrook, Aledo and beyond. He gave to his church and participated in building a hospital in Guatemala. In his later years, Billy Joe and Georgia built their final home together overlooking the most perfect Texas landscape in Brock. He enjoyed taking care of his longhorns, goats and various other wildlife. Billy Joe loved to drive and to fish. He enjoyed sitting around a table with family and friends, playing cards, telling jokes and eating good food. Billy Joe loved his loyal dog, Sugie. He loved his land properties and took pride in picking the most beautiful pieces to enjoy. Billy Joe never met a stranger and was kind to everyone he met.
