Obituary for Lucile Althar Tindol
Lucile Althar Tindol was born in South Pittsburgh, Tennessee, June 23, 1911, to Edward Downing Althar and Lucile Gatlin Althar. Lucile passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2015, at Brookdale Weatherford. She had a built-in love for the mountains. Growing up, she spent several years with her family in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Lucile graduated from C.E. Byrd High School in 1928, continued on to Dodd College for her AA, and received her BA at Centenary College, all scholarly institutes in Shreveport, Louisiana. Her Bachelor of Science in Library Sciences came from the School of Library Sciences in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She was the librarian at Dodd College, Centenary College, and Byrd and Woodlawn High Schools, all of Shreveport. Lucile was a member of the honorary professional women's society, Delta Kappa Gamma, of the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association, lifelong member of the Louisiana Parent-Teacher Association, and of Chi Omega Sorority. She married James Frank Tindol, Junior, in 1938, who preceded her in death in 1956. They had three children: James F. Tindol, III, 1939, Lucile Agnes (Lolly) Tindol (Mrs. Norman Lee Gootee, III), 1944, and Mary Ann Tindol Boyd (Mrs. James E. Boyd), 1952. Jim died in the submarine, USS Scorpion, in 1968. Lolly and her husband live in the Ozarks of Northwestern Arkansas. Mary Ann and Jim Boyd live in Weatherford, Texas. Her brother, Edward Malcolm Althar and his wife Gladis preceded her in death. Her older granddaughter, Inger Tindol Robertson Whittington, married to Jimmy Whittington, and their children, Ellen and Arlen, live in Shreveport. Her granddaughter Erica Robertson Clark, her husband Hann and son Grayson, live in Knoxville, Tennessee. Her grandson, James Hunter Boyd, lives in Weatherford. Her Tindol nieces all live in Louisiana: Bobby and Celeste Hamm and Grace Tindol of Shreveport, Kathy Breithaupt of Baton Rouge, Peggy Case of Pineville.
Lucile pursued her love of travel in Great Britain, Spain, South America and North America. She lived in Venezuela for several years as Frank Tindol was a Petroleum Engineer for Texaco. The family lived in Texas and Louisiana on their return from overseas. On retirement, Lucile lived in Texas and Arkansas with her daughters and their families. She enjoyed eight years at Brookdale Weatherford, assisted living, in Weatherford, Texas, close to her younger daughter, Mary Ann Boyd.
Her zest for life was evident in her many activities: Bible study, painting in watercolor and oil, arts and crafts, quilting, people, grandchildren, gardening and travel.

The funeral arrangements are being handled by White’s Funeral Home, Weatherford, Texas. Services will be held on Saturday, February 14, at Grace Presbyterian Church at 2pm. Interment will be in Shreveport on Monday, February 16, with graveside service at 1pm.
