Alta Mae Gregston

May 21, 1929 — February 25, 2015

Alta Mae Helbert Gregston, born May 21, 1929 in San Angelo Texas went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 25, 2015. Visitation: 1 to 5 P.M. Sunday March 15, 2015 at White's Azle Funeral Home, 105 Denver Trail, Azle 76020. Alta married her sweetheart, Miles Roland Gregston, on August 22, 1945. Alta had many facets, she dearly loved her husband, Greg, and her three girls. A child of the depression, Alta was quite accomplished at making something out of nothing. The daughter of a dairyman and woman, she learned to cook, sew and quilt. She would make flour-sack dresses for her girls and later turn the same material into quilts. A resourceful woman, Alta would make homemade butter and barter it for the occasional piece of special fabric and thread at the local mercantile. Alta crocheted and knitted hats and sweaters for her girls and continued the same in her later years for her grandchildren. In the 70s, Alta began painting with watercolors and oils. Florals and ranch style windmills were her favorite themes. She sold many paintings to individuals throughout the United States and enjoyed giving them as gifts as well. Alta could make the Bible come to life, teaching the word through flannel board stories. She spent most of her life in Carlsbad, New Mexico attending Carlsbad First Assembly of God. She spent time in Denton, Texas before becoming a resident at Azle Manor here in Azle, Texas in January of 2014. Survivors: Daughters, Mickie Saylor of Azle, Jerri Venables of Denton and Laura Pipher of Beaver Dam, Ariz.; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
