ALEDO -- Fred McCown, 79, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, passed away Friday, March 6, 2015. Funeral Service: 10 a.m. Monday at Trinity Bible Church, 4936 I-20 East Service Road South, Willow Park. Interment: Graford Cemetery, Graford. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations may be made in Fred's memory to Archer City Church of Christ, P. O. Box 505, Archer City, Texas 76351 or Trinity Bible Church in Willow Park. Fred Alanzo McCown, Jr. was born in Strawn on September 1, 1935. His parents were Fred Alanzo McCown, Sr. and Ozell Irene Jones McCown. He has one sister, Shirley Irene McCown Wilson. The family lived in Graford and Fred graduated from Graford High School. He went to college at North Texas State University and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Arts in 1958. His first and only teaching job was in Archer City as an Industrial Arts teacher beginning that same year. The wood shop and mechanical drawing building were just being built. Fred married Linda Geraldine "Jerry" McCann the following year on July 3, 1959. They have three children, Penny Lynn, Kevin Alan and Lorie Anne. Fred took his family with him for three summers to get his Master's Degree in Industrial Arts from East Texas State University in Commerce. Fred taught at Archer City High School for 33 years. He also coached all levels of girls athletics for 22 years. Fred took the girl's basketball team to the Regional Finals several times and came in second in State in 1976. He also drove the school bus for 33 years. Fred and Jerry were involved in upholstering and refinishing furniture, custom made furniture and kitchen cabinets. After Fred's retirement, he and wife, Jerry, daughter, Penny, along with friend, Meridith South, started a vending machine company called Pennyante Enterprises. They did this for several years. Fred and Jerry have been living with Penny in Aledo for several years and sold their home in Archer City in 2013. Fred went into the hospital on January 9, 2014, then was sent from the hospital to a care center in White Settlement on January 15, 2014. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, Dementia, and Multiple Systems Atrophy. Fred and Jerry have been married for 55 years. They were members of the Archer City Church of Christ. While living with Penny, they attended Trinity Bible Church in Willow Park. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Fred McCown, Sr. in 1997 and Ozell McCown in 1988. Survivors: Wife, Jerry; three children, Penny Lynn McCown Dolezal, Kevin Alan McCown and wife, Carla, and Lorie Anne McCown Jackson; one sister, Shirley Irene McCown Wilson; two grandchildren, Paden Alan McCown and Katherine Elaine McCown Partridge and husband, Alex; five step-grandchildren, Jason Cox, Natalie Cox, John Cox, Ashley Cox and Joel Cox and wife, Lawren; three step-great-grandchildren, Cade Cox, Chloe Cox and Keagan Keasler; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
