John Robert Young Jr., 83, passed away at home peacefully Wednesday, March 25, 2015.
Service: Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 1802 Bethel Road, Weatherford.
Interment: 12:30 p.m. in Moore Memorial Gardens, Arlington.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at White's Funeral Home, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford, with a rosary at 7 p.m.
John was born Jan. 17, 1932, in Jacksonville, Fla., to John R. Young Sr. and Malita Smith Young, both deceased. He had two half sisters from his father's side of the family, whereabouts or status unknown. John was educated in Jacksonville, Fla., Andrew Jackson Class of 1950, and served in the United States Army and the United States Air Force from July 1949 until November 1971. He served in Korea during the police action, Vietnam, Far East, for eight years and throughout the world. He retired from the active military with the rank of E7.
John then entered the private sector and worked as a private pilot for a short time period. He then went to work for Electro-Com Automation in St. Petersburg, Fla., E Systems in Garland, ElectroCom Service Corp. in Arlington and Siemens. John was the director of postal field operations and retired after 25 years of dedicated service. He was transferred to Texas in 1974, resided in Grand Prairie and moved to Weatherford in 1992.
John was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 7264, serving as financial secretary since 2005, and General Worth Assembly 1089. He retired with full military and Knights of Columbus honors.
John enjoyed ocean cruising throughout the world with his best friend and wife, Betty.
Survivors: Wife and soulmate, Betty of Weatherford; children, Cynthia A. Young of Santa Ynez, Calif., Robert A. Young of Austin and Francesca G. Thornhill; grandchildren, Taylor Thornhill, Lanelle Thornhill, Parker Thornhill and Nicole Thornhill of Texas; stepchildren, Michael T. McWilliam, Theresa Kuhn, Margaret LaRue, Heidi Pearce and Jeremy Sean McWilliam; 15 stepgrandchildren; and cats, Elbe and Tinker Bell.
