Susan Landis McKnight

January 24, 1944 — July 11, 2015

HUDSON OAKS -- Susan Robinson McKnight, 71, passed away Saturday, July 11, 2015. At her bedside was her family, her husband, Thomas McKnight; son, Douglas McKnight and his wife, Wendy Lynn Grothe McKnight; daughter, Katherine Rose McKnight Sherrill and her husband, Colin Kelly Sherrill. Also in attendance was her newest grandchild, Parker Hai Sherrill, born July 10, 2015. Memorial service: 2 p.m. Thursday at Aledo United Methodist Church, 100 Pecan Dr, Aledo, 76008. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please make donations to TCC Foundation Scholarship Fund, 1500 Houston Street, Fort Worth, TX, 76102. On the memo line put: "In memory of Susan McKnight." Susan was born January 24, 1944, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. After high school, she attended Pennsylvania State University earning a B.A. in English. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and worked on the student newspaper. While teaching English at Radnor Jr. High school, she earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from Duke University. After five years of teaching at Radnor, she taught English for the Department of Defense Schools in Lakenheath, England. There she met and married Thomas, an Air Force fighter pilot. They moved several times in the following years and lived in Virginia, Utah, Kansas, and California. In 1979 they welcomed Douglas and in 1983 Katherine completed the family. During this period she continued various teaching jobs including, Adult Education programs, GED prep and High School completion classes, as well as at Community Colleges. After Thomas retired and the family moved to Texas, she began work at Tarrant County College, eventually becoming an Assistant Professor of English at TCC Northwest campus. She retired from all teaching in 2012. She helped many students excel and always enjoyed meeting them around town asking how they were progressing in their studies or life. Susan loved reading, travel, a good movie, and a great meal. She never missed Restaurant Week, and amazingly loved Captain America and the Avenger movies. She always had a recorded book in the CD player of her car. Her growing family was a constant source of pleasure. She marveled at their growth, intelligence and constant energy. She is and will be greatly missed. Susan was preceded in death by her father, William J. Robinson II; mother, Arline L. Robinson; and brother, William J. Robinson III. Survivors: husband, Thomas J. McKnight; son, Douglas G. McKnight and his wife, Wendy Lynn Grothe McKnight; daughter, Katherine Rose McKnight Sherrill and her husband, Colin Kelly Sherrill; granddaughter, Lillian Marie McKnight; grandsons, Henry Eli McKnight, Benjamin Steele McKnight, and Parker Hai Sherrill; numerous cousins, and wonderful life long friends.
