Mervin Seamons Petersen, 95, passed away August 17, 2015 in Weatherford, Texas. He was born January 6, 1920 in Hyde Park, Utah to Arthur Mourits and Mary Eliza Seamons Petersen. Mervin married Charlotte Jane Hunter January 18, 1944. She preceded him in death April 1, 2010.
Mervin attended Utah State University, receiving his bachelor of science in Civil Engineering and then attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
He served in the United States Navy during WWII, and rose to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. After the war, he worked as a hydrologist and a flood specialist for the Water Resources Department of the United States Geological Survey for 34 years.
Mervin is survived by his children, Patricia York, Susan (Fred) Taylor, Karen (Daniel) Smith-Holub, Lee M. (Linda) Petersen and Denise (Mark) Wood; 17 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Hattie Petersen, Vonda Petersen, Delbert Petersen, Sarah Mauchley, Wilma McQuarrie and Frank Petersen.
A funeral service for Mervin will be held on Friday, August 28, 2015, 11:00am, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 15605 West 32nd Ave., Golden, CO 80401. A visitation will be held at the Church on Friday, from 9:30-10:45am.
Burial will be on Monday, August 31, 2015, 10:00am, at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3598 Sheridan Blvd., Denver. Please gather at staging area “A” by 9:45am.
