Jerry Ernest Cockburn, 80, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015.
Funeral: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hilltop Family Church. Interment: Springtown Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Jerry Ernest Cockburn was born April 29, 1935 to Mildred and Fyke Cockburn in Jean, Texas. His family moved to Springtown area when Jerry was about 15 years of age. When his family decided to move back to the Olney area, Jerry decided to stay in Springtown with his grandparents and two uncles to graduate from Springtown High School and then attend Weatherford College.
Jerry was always active in his community. He worked for Tri County Electric as an engineer for thirty three years. He served on the Volunteer Fire Department for over fifty two years, with over twenty of those years being the Fire Chief. He served on the City Council for several terms, and was a reserve Police Officer. Jerry was always the man who wanted to help any way he could, because he felt that was what God wanted him to do.
Survivors: Wife of over forty years, Sarah; sons, Jerry Lee Cockburn and his wife, Debbie, Ronnie Cockburn, and Bradley Cockburn and wife, Tiffany; daughter, Joy Lynn Hudson and her husband, Chip; fourteen grandchildren, who were the love of his life; three great grandchildren, that changed him from a good granddad to a GREAT granddad; and brother, Jimmy Cockburn and wife, Lyndell.
