Charlie "Chief" Rogers born December 15, 1935 in Miami, Florida passed away Saturday, October 10, 2015.
Graveside Service: 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
Charlie grew up in Miami and graduated from North Miami Sr. High School in 1954. After graduation he joined the United States Navy and became a crew member on an anti submarine aircraft serving off the aircraft carrier U.S. Latte. He served honorably for six years. During maneuvers in the Mediterrenean Sea his air craft lost power and he and the crew ended up in eleven foot seas. They were all rescued successfully.
After his discharge from the military he became a heavy equipment operator and during that time he went to the Police Academy in Dade County, Florida to become a Deputy Sheriff in Broward County, Florida.
Charlie moved from Broward County to Dade County and was a patrolmen but later became a motorcycle officer. His next move was to become police chief of Hialeah Miami Gardens, a position he held until his retirement from law enforcement. Charlie's last employment was as a supervisor of high cargo for American Airlines at Miami International Airport.
After retiring , Charlie moved to Fort Worth to be closer to his family.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Alice and Tommy Rogers; daughter, Jill; and granddaughter, Samantha.
Charlie left behind his son, Tommy and wife, Kella of Azle; grandson, Justin Loth of Fort Worth; brother, James Rogers and wife, Sandie of Big Fork, Montana; cousins, Lynne Brown and Patricia Harrison of the Villages, Florida, Cheryl Ondrako of Bronson, Florida, Bonnie Kay Busby and husband, Marve of Oregon City, Oregon, Randy and Steve Rogers of Morganson, North Carolina; nieces, Kimberly Simpson of Boca Raton, Florida and Karen Rogers of Los Angeles, California and their children, Doreid, Kay, Alen, Andra and Matthew; and close friends, Anna and Ryan Woodward of Fort Worth.
