Richard "Dick" Burke Green

December 20, 1942 — November 1, 2015

MILLSAP, TEXAS -- Richard Burke "Dick" Green, 72, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015. Funeral Service: 1 p.m. Friday at the Brazos Trails Cowboy Church, 300 Sharla Smelley Road, Weatherford, Texas. Interment: Fairview Cemetery, Millsap, Texas. Visitation: 6 p.m to 8 p.m. Thursday at White's Funeral Home, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford, Texas. Memorial Service: At a later date in Hermiston, Oregon. Dick was born in Enterprise, Oregon on December 20, 1942, third son to Frank and Jesse Wagner Green. The family moved to the Hermiston, Oregon area in 1949, where his father owned a dairy farm. Dick was active in showing dairy cattle in 4-H. He was an accomplished athlete in high school, competing in basketball, baseball, and was quarterback of the football team, graduating from Umatilla High School in Oregon in 1961. He then quarterbacked for Eastern Oregon State College, the most notable game being against the Walla Walla Prison team. He graduated with a teaching degree in 1966, and then taught 4th, 5th and 6th grade at Hermiston for 11 years. Dick married Linda Hams in 1965, a union to which two girls Wendy and Kim were born, the lights of his life. They later divorced, and Dick married Peggy Lee in 1984, adopting daughter Jody. He was an active Jaycee, team bowler, softball player, referee and Jr. Olympics coordinator. After teaching, he started NW Motorhome Center with friend, Rick Rebman, in 1976. Sales was his calling and he enjoyed growing the business very much. Dick was an officer and active member of the Oregon Trail Appaloosa Club. He raised and showed many champion halter and performance horses. When he and Peggy found a new love - cutting horses, they moved to Oklahoma in 1996, then Millsap in 2009. In retirement, Dick started Longhorn Trailers, buying and selling horse trailers. He really enjoyed fixing them up to sell, attending to every little detail. People would say "Wow, has there ever been a horse in here?", looking at a ten year old trailer! An excellent rider, Dick won a trophy at his first AQHA cutting and several buckles the first year. Most of all, Dick was a dedicated family man and rock for his wife and three girls. Such a great husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was instantly liked by people he met, and trusted by those who knew him. If he gave you his word, you could count on it, gaining him the respect of customers, neighbors, and friends alike. He spent many hours watching sports and talking with Peggy's dad after he moved in with them in 2013, and taking him for ice cream, very much enriching Glenn's last year of life. Dick also helped Peggy raise a granddaughter for eight years. He loved to travel, attend Rangers games and Nascar races, bull riding, rodeo, and football. He was predeceased by his father; mother; and brother, David. Survivors: Wife of 31 years, Peggy Green of Millsap; daughters, Wendy Erlandsen and husband, Ryan, of Vancouver, Wash., Jody Bass and partner, David Rowe, of Weatherford, Tex., and Kim Fee and husband, Chris, of Burien, Wash.; grandchildren, Adrianna Arroyo, Sarah Erlandsen, Joshua Erlandsen, William Bass and Cannon Fee; brothers, Dan Green and wife, Sally, of Tacoma, Wash. and Del Green and wife, Barbara, of Umatilla, Ore.; sister, Gloria Beasely and husband, Art, of Hermiston, Ore.; and many other special family members and long time customers and friends.
