Hazel Jean Keeney

Hazel Jean Olsen Keeney, 85, of Springtown passed from this earthly world Wednesday, November 11, 2015. Hazel was born August 27, 1930 to Carl and Jenny Olsen. Hazel spent her younger years in Cranfills Gap. On December 28, 1949 she married her love, William "Bill" Keeney, in Taos, New Mexico. They were married for 55 years before his passing in February, 2005. In 1972 she and her family moved to Springtown where she resided the rest of her life. A long-time educator and librarian, Hazel received her Bachelor's of Science Degree in Education from Tarleton University and her Masters of Librarian Science from the University of North Texas. She often referred to her love of teaching and learning. She retired from the Springtown I.S.D. in the early 1990's after 32 years of teaching service. She was a proud member of the Texas Retired Teacher's Association. A long time member of the Lutheran Church community, she was most active in the church activities at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Weatherford. Mrs. Keeney is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and husband, Bill. She is survived by her 4 children, Karen, Walker, Elizabeth, and Jay. Hazel is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
