Eldon was born in Aledo to Hubert and Elva Mae Ray. He graduated from Aledo High School in 1958 and received his bachelor's from Texas Wesleyan and then his master's from Texas Christian University. He worked for the Fort Worth ISD for 40 years as a teacher, coach, school administrator and retired in 2002 as associate superintendent. During the 1980s, he served as president of the Aledo school board and was instrumental to many improvements to the district. He was Aledo ISD's biggest fan and, being a former high school and college athlete, he was also an avid supporter of Aledo athletics.
Eldon married the love of his life, Judy Wall, on Aug. 14, 1962, and they had three devoted children, DeAnn, Angela and Bill. When he wasn't working or watching sports, he was spending all his time with his family. He never missed one of his children's or his grandchildren's athletic events. He leaves behind a great legacy of coaching, teaching and mentoring. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Eldon was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harden Ray; and grandson, Barrett Spence.
Survivors: Wife of 53 years, Judy Ray; children, DeAnn Spence and husband, Rick, Angela Cohen and husband, Boe, and Bill Ray; grandchildren, Dylan, Will, Hannah, Sadie, Gracie and Sophie; sister, Mona Fields; brother, Roy Ray and wife, Carol; and many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
