RICHARDSON -- Jess Mankin, Jr., a native Texan, born August 30, 1921, died January 26, 2016.
Graveside Service: 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 1, 2016 at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy., Dallas. Lane A at 12:45 p.m.
Mr. Mankin proudly served his country during World War II, in the United States Naval Air Corps, as a Naval Pilot, in Bomber Squadron 141. He later was a pilot for Pan Am. In the 50's he started a career in the Insurance industry and practiced in Florida, Texas and California. In 1973 he opened and operated Wine Magic of Texas, Inc. and was instrumental in restarting the wine making industry in Texas.
Mr. Mankin graduated from North Texas State Teachers College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Teaching, and furthered his education with a Degree of Juris Doctor from the University Miami Law School. He practiced as an Attorney and Counselor at Law in Florida and Texas. In the 70's he began as an attorney in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth and Eleventh Circuit in Richardson, Texas. Mr. Mankin was a Master of the Royal Secret of the 32nd Degree of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite United States and a Noble of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, of the Moslah Temple.
Mr. Mankin was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie B. Mankin and Myrtle Pasley; his first wife, Dorothy Noroit Mankin; his second wife, Margery LaVerne Mankin; stepson, Gary Rosenthal; and special cousin, Ona Simpson.
Survivors include: daughter, Pamela Ann Kramer, and Jules Ringer, of Dallas; son, Roger Jess Mankin of Dallas; daughter, Rhonda Jean Webb and son-in-law, Charles Thomas Webb, of Aledo; step-daughter, Lynn Rosenthal May and husband, Ron May, of Eagle Rock, Missouri; grandchildren, Steven Webb, Sarah Webb and Nathan Collins of Texas.
