Myrna Adams Hendrick

October 7, 1936 — February 22, 2016

Myrna Adams Hendrick, 79, of Lipan passed away in a Fort Worth hospital on Monday, February 22, 2016. Memorial service: 2 p.m. Thursday at Patillo Baptist Church. Visitation: 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at White's Funeral Home in Mineral Wells. Memorials: The family requests that memorials be made to the Patillo Baptist Church, the Lorri Hendrick Scholarship at the Baptist Seminary, or memorial of your choice. Myrna was born in Stephenville on October 7, 1936 to Iris Bustle and W.J. Adams. She was the youngest of five children: Buford, Eugene, Don, Frankie, and Myrna. Myrna accepted Christ as a young girl in a small country church south of Mountainaire, N.M. The family moved to Lipan when she was in seventh grade. She learned to play basketball and in 1953-54 she was the starting guard on the Lipan Lady Indians that were 36-0 and were defeated in the second game of the state tournament. She was Salutatorian of her graduating class. She attended John Tarleton College for two years. Myrna married John Hendrick on the 25th of August, 1956 and they would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this year. John was a senior at Texas A&M and Myrna worked as a secretary in the Agricultural Education Department. They were active in the College Station Baptist Church. After graduation they were in the Army in Virginia and Kansas. It was back to A&M to go to graduate school and Myrna worked in the Poultry Department. Their next move was to Perrin where John taught Vo-Ag and Myrna was a substitute teacher. Kevin was born in 1958 and Lorri in 1960. In 1961, they started their career with Texas Power and Light Co. (a great family oriented company). They lived in Mineral Wells, Waxahachie, Irving, Terrell, and Sherman in their 36 years with the company. Myrna was a great help-mate to John in every capacity that he served. They were active in Baptist Churches in each of those cities. Jay was born in 1970 and Kyle in 1973. Myrna was an outstanding mother and Christian example to everyone. She loved her husband and her children, but God was first in her life. In 1982 the Hendrick family experienced a great tragedy when 22 year old Lorri died unexpectedly. Myrna came through this with the help of the good Lord. Myrna and John retired in November 1992 after 36 years in the electric utility business. They moved to Lipan to operate the family ranch and built their first new home. Myrna became the first woman on the Lipan School Board in many years and was later elected President of the Board. She had a great love for children and education. She received several awards from the Texas Association of School Board for her training in school board operations. Myrna became a partner in the women's program at Southwestern Baptist Seminary. She has spent many hours there attending various functions. She was also a member of the Board of Visitors. Myrna loved the study of the Bible. She was an excellent Bible teacher and enjoyed her Bible Study groups. She was an active member of Patillo Baptist Church where her folks took her as a baby. Thanks to you all for being Myrna's friend through the years. Survivors: Husband, John; children, Col. Kevin Hendrick (Terri) of San Antonio, Jay of Kansas City, MO, and Kyle (Allison) of Keller; Grandchildren, US Army Captain Amanda Winstead (Ryan) of Colorado, Ross of South Korea, and Wesley of College Station, Paige and Nathan Hendrick of Keller.
