James Wood Gregory, 78, dedicated husband, father, and grandfather passed away at home, Monday, February 22, 2016 in Springtown.
Funeral Service: 10:00 am Saturday at White's Funeral Chapel in Springtown. Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 pm Friday at the funeral home. Interment: Springtown Cemetery with Masonic Rites.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the First United Methodist Church of Springtown or the Scottish Rite's Hospitals of Texas.
James was born February 20, 1938 in Lampasas to the late John Gregory and Edrie McKissick. He had been a Springtown resident since 1964. James served his country in the United States Army and worked 30 plus years as a commercial refrigeration mechanic. James was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Springtown and was a devoted Life Member of the Masonic Lodge serving many offices for the Joplin Lodge #939 and Eureka Lodge 371 AF & AM, Past Master twice in a row and DDGM Grand Lodge of Texas in 1994. He was responsible for the local lodge building remodel in 1985. In 1994 he was instrumental in obtaining the first state historical marker in Springtown which is located on the Masonic Lodge Building. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a Past Patron of the Order of Eastern Star, Springtown Chapter #498 of Springtown.
James was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bruce Gregory in 2008; brother, Franklin Ayers; and sister, Leta Dale Raulston.
Survivors: Wife of 58 years, Jimmie Gregory; son, Paul Gregory and wife, Maria; brothers, Ronald Gregory and wife, Jo Ann, and Melton Kirk; sister, Patsy Garthwaite and husband, Ronald; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and numerous loving family members.
