Joseph "Big Joe" Wintin Bourland

GRAFORD -- Joseph "Big Joe" Wintin Bourland, 78, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2016. Memorial Service: 2 p.m. Friday, April 15, 2016 at White's Funeral Home, 101 N. E. 4th Ave., Mineral Wells. Visitation: 1 to 2 p.m. Friday prior to the service. Joe was born November 30, 1937 in Ardmore, Okla. and was an only child to Joseph Bynum and Gladys Fay Wintin Bourland. He grew up in Oklahoma City but later moved to Irving. Joe enlisted in the Marine Corp and served his country for 9 1/2 years. He served in Vietnam and the Korean War. In 1964 he was honorably discharged from the Marine Corp and set up residence in Irving, where he welcomed his son, Joe Bynum Bourland on November 7, 1967. He also raised three stepchildren, Vickie Glover, Paula Glover Chaffin and Scott Glover. Joe was very active in all aspects of their lives. In 1972 he became an auto mechanics teacher for the Texas Public School System until he retired in 1993. After retiring, he moved to Graford where he became employed by The Cliffs Golf and Country Club, and was grounds keeper there, which he loved dearly. Joe was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #1026 in Graford. After moving to Graford, he met Wanda Carol Holder and they were married August 25, 1999, until her death on November 7, 2015. Joe was an avid OU fan his entire life and raised her son, Joe Bynum to be one as well. He and Joe Bynum spent many Saturdays racing motorcycles and spending quality time together. Joe was also a proud Chickasaw Indian. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Wanda Bourland. Joe is survived by his son, Joe Bynum Bourland and wife, Tracey; his grandsons, Luke, Sam and Jake, of Oklahoma City; three stepchildren, Vickie Glover and partner, Tim Williamson, of Palestine, Paula Chaffin and husband, Lawrence, of Palestine, and Scott Glover and wife, Charlotte, of Irving; numerous step grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
