Herbert H. Carter, 87, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2016.
Service: 10 a.m. Saturday at White's Funeral Home, 401 N. Main St., Springtown, 76082. Interment: Springtown Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at White's Funeral Home.
Herbert was born October 17, 1928 at the family farm in Springtown to Arthur and Maude Carter. His mother picked cotton the day he was born.
Herbert graduated from Springtown High School in 1947 and and Weatherford College in 1949. He was an outstanding athlete who excelled in baseball and basketball. He played college basketball and was drafted by the Pittsburg Pirates to play baseball.
Herbert put his dreams on hold to serve the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He married Margaret Ann Earp on May 20, 1952 and they celebrated 64 years of marriage this past May. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Edith Biddlecome; and brother, James Carter.
Survivors: wife, Margaret Ann Earp Carter; sons, Mike Carter and wife, Sheri, Jimmy Carter and wife, Rene, and Larry Carter and wife, Deidre; grandchildren, Chris Carter and wife, Jessica, Erik Carter and wife, Amanda, Josh Carter and wife, Kimberly, Lacey Steen and husband, Jimmy, Shelby Stanton and husband, Cole, Taylor Carter, Bethani Carter, Harrison Carter, Hayley Carter, Candice Bobo, Makyla Lackey, and Logan Lackey; and 15 great-grandchildren.
