R. D. Montgomery, Sr. 84, loving husband, father, grandfather, businessman and friend passed away Sunday, January 1, 2017.
Graveside Service: 2:00 P.M. Thursday at Azleland Memorial Park.
Visitation: 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at White's Azle Funeral Home.
R.D. was born in Post Oak, Texas September 24, 1932 to Eugene and Edith Montgomery. He married the former Loretta Mayberry of Knox County in 1950.
R. D. was involved in the oil and gas industry as well as the health care industry. In 1958 he went into the construction business for himself that evolved into the construction and operation of multiple facilities across the state.
R. D. had served as President and C.E.O. of several corporations including Bur-Mont, Inc., Montgomery Properties, Inc., Deb-Don Corporation and Azle Manor, Inc. While in Wichita Falls he was active in the Wichita Falls Home Builders Association and in the Chamber of Commerce. R. D. also served several years on the Board of Directors at First Bank of Azle. He was The Business Man of the Year with the Azle Chamber of Commerce in 2007. He was also a member of the Rotary Club of Azle and was on the Azle Chamber Board of Directors. R.D. loved and enjoyed the ranching and cattle operations in Clay and Jack County.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors: Wife, Loretta Montgomery of Azle; son, R.D. "Don", Montgomery Jr. and wife, Merry Kay; daughter, Debrah Montgomery of Wichita Falls;, half brothers, Travis Montgomery and William Montgomery; grandson, Jason Arnold and wife, Amy; granddaughters, April Howell and husband, Barrett, Heather Holman and husband, Dean, and Aron Kkay Clyburn and husband, Brandon; grandsons, Ty Montgomery and wife, Alyssa and Mitchell Montgomery; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
