Mary Catherine Barber

Mary passed away May 15, 2017. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Azle, Texas at 10 am on Wednesday, June 7 followed by burial at DFW National Cemetery, Dallas, Texas at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fr. Salvator M. Stefula, TOR, Sacred Heart Church, 1220 15th Street West, Bradenton, FL 34205 or Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 800 High Crest Drive, Azle, TX 76020. Mary was born June 10, 1921 in New Martinsville, West Virginia. In 1942 she enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve (WAVES) as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate, 2nd Class. She was stationed at the Naval Air Station in Grand Prairie where she met LCDR Bert Barber of Fort Worth. They were married May 7, 1944. Mary received her M.A. from Texas Woman’s University (1978), Licensed Professional Counselor (1984), and taught art therapy to children with special needs for 12 years for Fort Worth ISD. Mary was predeceased by her husband Bert Barber; father, Leo Thomas Keough; mother, Marie Margaret Blatt Keough and husband William Cross, Sr.; beloved sisters Gertrude Keough and Virginia Keough Rawe and husband Robert. Mary is survived by her children Jeanette Barber, Paula Vanderwoude and husband Larry, and James Barber and wife Sherry; grandchildren, Anna Davis and husband Brad, Bret and Jack Barber; great-grandchildren Catherine and Caden Davis. She is also survived by her sister and brother Mary Catherine Cross Fitzsimmons and William Cross, Jr.; nieces and nephews Diane Sparks, John Sparks and wife Sandra, Robert Lee Rawe, Barbara Hill and husband Keith, Judy Lloyd and husband Gary, Sue Schwarz and husband Kevin.
