Billy “Bill” Almouth Gilbert, 86, beloved husband, father, brother, grandad, “granpoppy” and friend to many, went to be with the Lord Saturday, the 26th of March, 2022. Visitation: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, the 29th of March, 2022 at White’s Funeral Home, 130 Houston St., Weatherford. Service: 10 a.m. on Wednesday, the 30th of March, 2022, at White’s Funeral Home. Graveside: 12 p.m. following the service at Brock Cemetery, 2300 FM-1189, Brock. Lunch will follow at Brock Community Center, 2115 FM-1189, Brock. Bill was born October 28th, 1935, in Brock, the son of Virgil and Lois Gilbert. He was the only son of five children. In the early years, Bill worked on the farm and at the old Maddux Grocery for his Uncle Jimmy Maddux, and best friend, Harold Anderson, before and after school. He graduated from Brock High School in 1954, where he played on the Eagles basketball team and was in the FFA. Bill went on to attend Weatherford College for several years. He married Linda Copeland, of Weatherford, in early 1957. They were married for 34 years, and had 2 children together. After graduating College, he started work at General Dynamics for about 3 years. Layoffs forced him back to Weatherford to work. Bill landed a job with The Texas Highway Department in Weatherford. He loved his job putting up and taking down signs and driving the big sign truck. Bill was very knowledgeable of every sign in Parker County and of every single road. He retired after 36 years in 1993. Bill was active in sports, coaching Little League for several years with his son, while maintaining all the Little League and Senior League ball parks. He enjoyed his fishing and hunting trips with his friends Charles and Travis. His fishing trips on the Brazos River and surrounding lakes, with his best friend and brother-in-law Harold, were some memorable times. Bill was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #275. Bill then married Betty Miles Bosley in 1993. They spent 25 wonderful years together enjoying each other, birdwatching from their back patio, gardening and mowing the fields. Bill just loved working outside and building things. They enjoyed their time with all their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They also enjoyed traveling to play BINGO at numerous locations and the occasional trip to WinStar in Oklahoma to gamble. Bill was a gentle, quiet, soft-spoken man with a heart of gold. He was a giver to all, a good listener and helper. He was a man of faith. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Miles Gilbert; parents, Virgil A. and Lois Gilbert; sisters, Anita Carter, Mary Helen Gilbert, and Betty Jane Gilbert; and stepdaughter, Felinda Bosley. He is survived by his sister, Joy Allmon; son, Chris Gilbert and wife, Anne; daughter, Kerry Gilbert-Glenn; stepchildren, Bob Bosley, and Renee Bosley; grandchildren, Paige and Hollie Gilbert, Samantha Hester, John Dillon and Sheyanne Glenn, Brandon Mayberry, Russell Bosley, Amber Bosley, Christy Bosley, Jennifer Cannon, Melissa and Brent Matlock and Cody Cannon; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
