She attended Blair School all 12 years, graduating in 1962, where she was an honor student, a standout post forward on the Blair Bronc Basketball team, Senior Homecoming Queen and Junior Girls State candidate. Carolyn attended The First Baptist Church of Blair where she was baptized as a child and spent her young life participating in all church activities. It was there she met her high school sweetheart and future husband, Ron Crabbe. They were married on May 28, 1962 and enjoyed 52 years together before Ron passed in 2014. Their marriage was blessed with three beautiful daughters, Rhona, Carol and Traci. Carolyn is presently a member of the First Baptist Church in Weatherford, Texas. After high school, Carolyn attended cosmetology school and worked as a hairdresser in both Altus and Blair. Later Ron and Carolyn began a 50-year partnership in the Sonic business with lifelong friends, Danny and Avis Winters. They moved their family to Weatherford, Texas in 1970 and opened their first Sonic Drive-In. In 1976 the family moved to Harrah, Oklahoma where Ron was involved in the Sonic office. The family returned to Weatherford to continue to grow their business in 1979. Carolyn was also employed by Weatherford ISD. She worked as the administrative assistant for the Special Education Department. She retired in 1998. Carolyn was a beautiful woman inside and out. Everyone who knew her loved her. FAITH, FAMILY and FRIENDS defined her life. She and Ron had a special marriage and their daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren made her a mother and grandmother above all others. She loved all her Cargal family, as well as, Ron’s Crabbe family. Friends were so much a part of Carolyn’s life and she was blessed with many. She was part of the “Wild Women”, a close group who worked, and played together, enjoying trips, cruises, shopping, Keno and Bunco. Growing up in Blair was both a blessing and privilege for Carolyn and her “special” group of friends. These friendships lasted a lifetime and in later years these Blair friends traveled, shopped, enjoyed great food, and always had a game of Mexican Train Dominos on the table. A post from her Facebook on July 18, 2019 says it best - “One day, all of us will get separated from each other. We will miss our conversations. Days, months, and years will pass until we rarely see each other. One day, our children will see our photos and ask, “Who are these people?” And we will smile with invisible tears and say, “It was with them that I had the BEST DAYS OF MY LIFE.” Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Ron; parents, Bill and Jo Cargal; sister, Twilla Starwalt; and brother, Ricky Cargal.
