As a child, he loved roaming the countryside hunting and fishing. As a young teenager, he was a paper carrier for the Cleburne Times Review, and he also worked at Piggly Wiggly grocery store. He was a 1963 graduate of Cleburne High School. Delton worked briefly for the AT&SF railroad shops in Cleburne followed by a 36-year career with General Motors, Service Parts Operations (SPO) based in Dallas, Everman, and Alliance. He met and married the love of his life, Marion Nell Dodgin on August 23, 1969 at Field Street Baptist Church in Cleburne. In 1964 Delton joined the Reserve Army National Guard where he advanced to the rank of E9 Command Sergeant Major after 26 years. He was a member of the 49th Armored Division and the 249th Signal Battalion. Most of his life he lived in Cleburne, but upon retirement he enjoyed ranching in Mason County for 5 years before failing health necessitated a move to Weatherford. During the 12 years he lived in Weatherford, he and Nell were active members of Lakeshore Baptist Church. From the early 1980’s one of Delton’s favorite pastimes was spending time in Red River, New Mexico, where they owned a home in the mountains for a number of years. Another of his hobbies was taking his corvette for a drive, which he looked forward to each day until failing health made it impossible. He was also an avid gardener, and loved working with his hands. Never one to be idle, he spent his last months making bluebird houses from his wheelchair. He always seemed to have an endless supply of energy. He is preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Charlotte Tidwell, and Lucille Jobe.
