Dorothy May Futch was born May 1, 1932, in Azle, Texas, to Herbert Burgess and Bessie Landers Burgess, the fourth of six close-knit children. Visitation: 6-8 PM, Wednesday, January 1, 2020, White’s Funeral Home, 130 Houston Avenue, Weatherford. Funeral Service: 1 PM, Thursday, January 2, 2020, White’s Funeral Chapel, Weatherford. Entombment: Memory Gardens of the Valley, Weatherford. After graduating from Arlington Heights High School, Dorothy married Harold Futch, together raising their children, Melissa, Bryan, and Cindy, while operating their business, Tri-Cities AC/Heating. Later, Dorothy parlayed her natural God-given ability to build a rapport and make friends to a long and successful career in real estate. Dorothy met every new experience with a smile as her daughter Melissa said, “Mom has always been a good sport.” Dorothy loved to travel, preferably to a beach, although she would tolerate a trip to the mountains if she didn’t have to look down. Dorothy loved to read - newspapers, magazines, a murder mystery, or a book about Liz Taylor. An avid Cowboys and Rangers fan, she watched every football or baseball game and cheered them on, winning season or not. Dorothy was an excellent cook, and since she loved living on Lake Weatherford, she perfected the art of the fish fry, her specialty being whole crappie. Seldom without a smile, Dorothy loved to celebrate and loved gathering with people, she appreciated a good funeral, and she loved to listen to Jim Nabors sing. If you knew Dorothy, you know she loved a good story and loved to laugh. If you joined her for a game or two of cards or a round of dominoes, you would undoubtedly hear her tell a few stories of her own, and you would be guaranteed a good laugh. Dorothy was happiest when her family and friends were around. Dorothy loved BIG! And if you were lucky enough to meet her, you loved her too. Dorothy passed peacefully from this earth, Saturday evening, December 28, 2019, at her home, with her family near. She was greeted in heaven by her parents; her brothers, Claude and Waymon; sisters, Helen and Merle; and grandson, Shane. Dorothy will be deeply missed here on earth by her children, Cindy & Matt Tanner, Bryan Futch, and Melissa Garner & Mike Mullenix; grandchildren Jennifer & Dale Hinds, Calli Tanner, Ross & Shani Tanner, Riley & Brittany Tanner, Steven Tanner, Bryan Futch, Jr., Chandler Hawhee, and Autumn & Branson Kilpatrick; great-grandchildren, Milli, Emily, Cody, and Cassidy; brother, Joe Burgess & wife, Lynn; sister-in-law, Peggy Burgess; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
