Elsie Elloys Purvis

May 20, 1924 — October 1, 2024

Weatherford

Elloys E. Purvis, born May 20,1924 passed away very peacefully on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Most of her adult life she was very secretive about her age, but she was very proud of turning 100.

Elloys was born in Burkburnett, Texas to Larkin Herman Evans and Elsie Gladys Anderson. She spent her childhood in Iowa Park. While growing up she and her family were very much a part of the western lifestyle. She was an exceptional equestrian and participated in the first ever mounted quadrill at many rodeos. She graduated from Iowa Park High School and was the last remaining member of the Iowa Park High School Class of 1942.

Getting married in 1946 to a handsome 1st Lt. in the Air Force, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Kelly A. Purvis, they traveled the world together and beginning in 1952 through 1959 they had four children. During that time the family lived in Georgia, Germany, Florida, England, Virginia, Waco, Texas, Abilene, Texas, Tampa Florida and retired in Weatherford, Texas in 1969. While stationed overseas she and her husband traveled through Europe sightseeing and playing golf.

After settling in Weatherford, she became involved with the Weatherford Garden Club and the Weatherford 20th Century Club. During her time with the organizations, she held various offices within the clubs. She was just recently made an Honorary Life Member of the 20th Century Club.

Along with her civic involvement she had numerous hobbies she enjoyed, all while continuing to raise four children. She was an avid and talented seamstress, she enjoyed needlework, jewelry making and watch repair. Her biggest love, however, was her art. An accomplished artist, she loved painting in oils of beautiful landscapes, portraits of family, flowers and Native Americans. She also was a gardener and loved her flowers. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, however, were her greatest joy.

Elloys is preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Kelly A. Purvis, daughter, Penny Purvis Bartlett Sneed and brother L. H. Evans of Azle.

Survivors include, sister Joyce Marie Elder of Brock, daughters Holly Sifford of Benbrook, Cherry Purvis of Hudson Oaks and son, Kelly A. Purvis, Jr. of Weatherford. She was a grandmother to Haley Ryan Sifford of Benbrook, Logan Dean Sifford of Cleburne, and great-grandmother to Brody Ryan Hill (14), Harper Reece Hill (10), Selah Nell Sifford (8) and Bauer Dean Sifford (5). Nephews, Wade Elder and Blake Elder, both of Fort Worth.

She was loved by all she met and was often referred to as “one of the sweetest ladies I’ve ever known.”
