Eugene Daniel Day, age 89, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018 in RichardsonFuneral Service: 11 a.m. Monday, April 23, 2018 in White's Chapel of Memories, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford, 76086Interment: Memory Gardens of the Valley, Weatherford, in the Field of HonorVisitation: 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home prior to the service.Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dan's memory to the American Red Cross or to the Veterans Society.Dan was born in Mitchell County, Colorado City, Texas on the 20th of July 1928. He was the son of Lila Beeman Day Lindsey of Roscoe, and Gene Day of Sweetwater. Dan was a graduate of Hondo High School in Hondo. After graduation he volunteered for service to his country. Dan saw service in the United States Marine Corp, United States Army Air Force, and Strategic Air Command.He was a veteran of World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, with nine years of foreign service, eight years of which were hazardous duty. During this time, he participated in the Berlin Airlift. He flew as a Flight Engineer with the famous 307th Bomb Wing, 370 Bomb Squadron out of Kadena Air Force Base in Okinawa during the Korean conflict. Dan was also extremely proud of having been a combat crew member of the First Strategic Support Squadron, General Le Mays private Air Force.Honorably retired after 21 years of service, he joined Bell Helicopter for sixteen more years and then retired to Horseshoe Bend. An avid golfer, he was a member of Horseshoe Bend Golf Association and the Senior Men's Oil Belt, a Master Mason of over forty years, and a life time member of Post # 4746 Veterans of Foreign Wars.Dan was preceded in death by his daughter, Lila Marie Day of Seville, Spain.He is survived by two sons, Frank Owen, and Paul Owen Day, of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Natalie Marie Taylor of Plano, Dillon Statham Taylor of North Richland Hills, and Savanna Nicole Day of Fort Worth; brother, Sam Holley; sister, Gail Ronemues; nephew, Royce Holley; niece, Connie Holley.
