Evelyn Simpkins

April 17, 1933 — January 8, 2025

Fort Worth

Evelyn Simpkins passed away peacefully on January 8, 2025 in Fort Worth, Texas at the age of 91. She will be interred next to her husband Wayne Simpkins of 60 years at Memory Gardens of the Valley Perpetual Care Cemetery in Parker County. There will be no formal service, but a celebration of life with family will be scheduled later.

Evelyn was born on April 17, 1933 in Parker County, TX as the third of seven children to Frank and Ethel Plumlee. She grew up in Peaster and had a humble, but happy childhood. After graduating from Peaster High School, she took a job with Southwestern Bell as an operator. Throughout her almost 40-year career Evelyn worked her way up to Area Manager in a time when the promotional path for women was much tougher. But through her confidence and strong ethics, she persevered and was a good leader and mentor to many of her employees and co-workers. She was also altruistic in her work with Junior Achievement and the Altrusa International Foundation.

After retiring, Evelyn liked to socialize with friends, sing in the church choir, go fishing with her husband, Wayne and spend time with her grandchildren. She always valued family above everything else. Even in her later years, she was always socially active and greeted everyone who happened to walk by her perch in the lobby of Broadway Cityview, where she spent her final years.

She will be missed by friends and family alike. She was a strong person who had a meaningful and positive impact on everyone who came in contact with her.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Wayne Simpkins, her parents, Frank and Ethel Plumlee and her siblings, Wesley Plumlee, Rosalene Bassett, Troy Plumlee and Ronald Plumlee. Survivors of Evelyn are her daughter, Cynthia Cox and husband Howard Cox, siblings Howard Plumlee and Donald Plumlee, grandchildren Amy Lindsey and husband Alan Lindsey, Dustin Cox and wife Alicia Cox and great grandchildren Katherine and Jackson Lindsey and Ava and Benjamin Cox.
