Fred Franklin Thomas, Jr.

Fred Franklin Thomas, Jr., 88, of Weatherford, entered the gates of Heaven on Thursday, March 21, 2019, surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Funeral Service:  10 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Weatherford.  Interment:  1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens, Irving.  Visitation:  6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at White’s Funeral Home, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford. Fred was born on November 29, 1930 in Faulkton, South Dakota, to the late Jessie Babb Thomas and Fred Franklin Thomas, Sr.  He was the only boy of eight children.  After his family moved to Texas in his early years, Fred graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas.  He served two years in the Army as a cook.  Fred’s love of people served him well during his 30 years with the postal service where he received many recognitions for his outstanding customer service. Upon retirement from the postal service, Fred spent many active, happy years with his wife, Mavis.  Their fun times included bowling, camping with friends and family, antiquing and collecting, spoiling numerous Boston Terriers, going to Dallas Sidekicks soccer games, attending Johnny High’s Country Music Revues, volunteering at the Senior Center, delivering Meals on Wheels, participating in activities at First United Methodist Church, and making friends wherever they went.  Although recent years have slowed his pace, he has enjoyed making new friends at Brookdale Assisted Living Center.  Fred had a knack for endearing himself to others, and will be missed by many. The family wishes to thank those at Brookdale Assisted Living Center, First United Methodist Church, and the many doctors and nurses who have loved and cared for him. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mavis. His family who will be missing him include his children, Linda Stilwell and husband, Joe, of Aledo, Ricky Thomas and wife, Janet, of South Carolina, Brenda Tejeda and husband, Raymond, of Irving, Teresa Alikhani of Oklahoma City, Steve Thomas and wife, Debbie, of Weatherford, and Leslie Thomas of Oklahoma City. Fred also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; and his 99 year old sister, Charlotte Giesen of Faulkton, South Dakota.
