Retired Senior Master Sergeant Frederick J. Ulrich, 89, died peacefully in Springtown at home on Wednesday, July 24, 2019. A viewing will take place at White’s Funeral Home on July 28 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. There will be a graveside service at Azleland Memorial Park on July 29 at 10:00 AM. with full military honors. Fred was born on February 6, 1930 in Queens, NY to Jacob and Madeline Ulrich. After graduating from Long Island High School in 1948, he joined the armed forces and was assigned to Mitchel AFB in New York after basic training. He was trained as a certified aircraft mechanic. Frederick was a veteran of the Korean War, while serving 22 ½ years in the Air Force. He was discharged with full honors in 1971 from his last duty station at Carswell AFB. While stationed at Mitchel AFB, he met Doris, his future wife. They were married in May 1952. They were married nearly 48 years before her passing in 2000. They had 5 children which they raised in New York, Georgia, Arkansas, Texas, France and Hawaii. The family returned and settled in Texas in 1970. After his retirement from the armed services, he and his wife, Doris owned Fred’s Chicken Box in River Oaks and a gift shop in Weatherford. After these ventures, he went on to work for Lockheed Martin. At Lockheed, he worked on the F-16 aircraft and retired in 1996. After his retirement from Lockheed, he enjoyed spending time with his family and the outdoors. He was always up for playing cards, Yahtzee, chess or a spirited game of backgammon. Fred also would frequent the local VFW to spend time with his fellow veterans. He was a Lutheran by faith and would faithfully say God bless you after every phone call. He is preceded in death by his wife, Doris. He is survived by daughters, Pamela McGraw and husband, James, Madelyn Sauveur, Sharon Reilly and her husband, Skip and Jacqueline Long and her husband, Burke; son, Fred M Ulrich; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; and longtime friends Sherrie and Johnny.
