Hanks Wendell Finley, 91, passed away July 10, 2024 in Azle, Texas.
Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 15, 2024 at White's Funeral Home Chapel in Springtown, Tx.
Wendell was born in Cottondale, Texas, on April 17, 1933, to Hanks and Letha Finley. On November 3, 1951, he married the love of his life, Delora. At the time of her passing they had been married for 61 years. Wendell spent all of his life in the Springtown, Texas area. He served his country in the United States Army.
He was baptized into Christ in the spring of 1970 and was a faithful member of Tri-County Church of Christ.
Wendell enjoyed the outdoors. There was not a place he would rather be than the high country of Colorado. He was an avid hunter, spending time in Colorado and Texas, pursuing his next “trophy”.
Wendell loved to make new acquaintances and visit with old ones, he never met a stranger. Meeting someone new, he would find some connection to that person whether it be distant kinfolk, or having “crossed paths” in the past, or simply knew mutual friends.
Though Wendell may no longer be physically present, may we never forget that his legacy is now placed in our care to preserve forever. A legacy of a remarkable man who made a positive impact upon many who came into contact with him over the years.
Wendell was preceded in death by his wife, Delora; a son, Jerry Wayne; both his parents; and one sister, Oma Lee Ellis.
He is survived by two daughters, Helen Harris, and Linda Shewmake; grandchildren, Terrill Gilliland, Michael Williams, Bryan Wilson, and Angela Wilson; great-grandchildren, Ashtyn Rogers, Justin Gilliland, Cody Gilliland and Morgan Wilson; and numerous family and friends.
