Harold Dean Cyphers

May 17, 1927 — July 16, 2024

Aledo, Texas

Dean Cyphers, of Aledo, passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at the age of 97.

Graveside Service: 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at Aledo Brown Cemetery in Aledo.

Dean was born on May 17, 1927 in Augusta, Kansas. He was the last son of seven children born to Grace and Elmer Elsworth Cyphers. His father died when he was 7 years old, leaving his mom to care for the family.

To help out with the family, Dean started delivering papers when he was 10. He then went to work for the Augusta Gazette where he worked until he enlisted in the United States Air Force, before graduating from high school in May of 1945. He had dreams of becoming an Air Force pilot. When Dean came home from the service, he took flying lessons and soloed. He then went to the University of Wichita where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree. While attending college, he worked at Boeing Airplane Company where he met Martha Eddings. They had their first date in October of 1951, and they married on March 2, 1952. Dean got a job with General Dynamics and they moved to Texas. Their family was complete with the births of a daughter, Lori, and a son, David.

Dean’s love of airplanes was evident as he spent 31 years at General Dynamics, and enjoyed flying remote control airplanes as his hobby. He and Martha also spent many years square dancing.

Lori’s death in 1994, leaving three young sons, brought another change to Dean and Martha. Dean loved spending summers and holidays with his grandsons.

Dean was preceded in death by his daughter, Lori; his parents; four brothers, Mike, Paul, Bob, and Jim; and two sisters, Violet Dobbins, and Doris Mehl.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Martha; son, David and his wife, Rebecca; and grandsons, Paul, Sean, and Thomas Cantu.
