Weatherford - Helen Wright Guess, 98, passed away Saturday, May 20, 2017. Visitation: 6:00 – 8:00 Wednesday at Whites Funeral Home, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford.Memorial Service:  2:30 Thursday at Grace-First Presbyterian Church, 606 Mockingbird Lane, Weatherford.Interment (Private): DFW National CemeteryMemorials:  In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to the Compassion Fund at the Grace-First Presbyterian Church, the Millsap Alumni Scholarship Foundation or the WC Ex-Student Scholarship Fund.Helen was born November 21, 1918, in Fort Worth, to Robert M. and Lois Lyle Wright.  She grew up and started school on the north side of Fort Worth.  The family later moved to Midland, Mineral Wells, and then to Ardmore, OK.Helen graduated from Ardmore High School in 1936.  Following graduation and the death of her father in the spring of 1937, she and her mother moved to Weatherford.  Helen attended and graduated from Weatherford College.  She then attended North Texas State Teachers College (UNT) and Texas State College for Women (TWU).Helen married Millard Guess of Millsap in 1947.  They lived in Weatherford until Millard was appointed Millsap Post Master in 1961.  She lived in Millsap until Millard’s death in 2002 when she moved back to Weatherford.Following retirement, Helen and Millard traveled extensively with close friends.  They also attended several of Millard’s WWII Squadron Reunions held in different parts of the country.Helen’s work career began in 1941 at the Parker County Draft Board.  After the war, she worked at Convair and various temporary government jobs.  She retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1982.  In the late 1950’s, she was one of the volunteers who helped organize the Weatherford Children’s Library, the forerunner of the Weatherford Public Library.Helen enjoyed watching sports on TV, particularly March Madness and the Rangers.  However, fall was her favorite sports season.  Saturdays would find her watching OU, Texas Tech and TCU football.Helen was a member of Grace-First Presbyterian for over eighty years, the Daughters of the American Revolution, Order of the Eastern Star and a lifetime member of the WC Ex-Student Association.She was preceded in death by her parents, and Millard, her husband of 55 years.She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Trezelle, of Weatherford, and Tom and Evelyn, of North Richland Hills.  Grandsons, Jeff (Whitney) of Weatherford, Jason of Port Orchard, WA, Adam (Amy) of Rowlett, John (Stephanie) of Jenks, OK, and Justin (fiancé, Anna Bess Dunbar) of Lubbock.  Great-grandchildren Owen, Addison, Caleb, Ruby and Harrison.Services are in care of White's Funeral Home, Weatherford.
