James Aaron Gilley

June 26, 1934 — March 16, 2024

James Aaron Gilley, age 89, passed from his earthly home to his eternal home, on Saturday, March 16, 2024, while surrounded by his family. Funeral Service: 10am Wednesday March 20, 2024, First Baptist Church of Castle Hills, where he was a long-standing member, located at 401 Beverly Rd., Azle, Texas. A visitation will be held from 9:30-10, at the church. In lieu of flowers, kindly the family requests that donations be made, in James’ name to the Castle Hills Mission House. This gesture would be deeply appreciated and align with his cherished values. James was born on June 26th, 1934, in Azle, Texas to Henry and Agnes Gilley. He remained a lifelong resident of the area. James was a proud graduate of Azle High School, class of 1954. He dedicated over four decades of service to AMPI-Associated Milk Producer Inc., where he eventually retired. After retirement, James found joy in serving at Castle Hills Mission House. James had a passion for sports, which was evident in the way he enthusiastically supported Azle Athletics alongside his loved ones, RM Gunn and David Gilley. His devotion to his teams - the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, and Dallas Mavericks - only grew stronger over time as he relished every victory they achieved. He is preceded in death by his parents; Henry and Agnes Gilley, In-laws, Albert and Ida Mae Richardson, twin children, Danny Ray & Carla Kay Gilley; and seven siblings, Gail Bryan Gilley, Margie (Dobbie) Tinsley, Marvin Gilley, Richard Gilley, David Gilley, Juanita Hinkle Coffee and Darelene Bernard. Brother-in-laws, RM Gunn, Leon Richardson and devoted friend, Larry Admire. Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Patsy; his four children, Kent Gilley, wife, Cindy, Shelley Gilley Unger, husband, Scott, Chad Gilley, wife Bobbie, Christi Gilley, and brother, Ronnie Gilley, wife, Sandi. James cherished his eleven grandchildren; Zach, Craig, Jonathan, Kristen, Rachel, Bridgette, Kaylee, Jaci, Caitlin, Renner and Austin. Special friends, Waymon Smithers and Marc Markum. A host of extended family members and friends. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Springtown Park Rehab for their exceptional compassion and care. James will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.
